The Significance of the Union Vote in 2012 and Beyond
This first piece was a landmark for me in my Political Science education. It was the first time I was assigned a project where I did all of the data collection and analysis on my own. This was the final project for Political Science 429. The class was on electoral politics, so I decided to analyze the affect of the union vote in swing-state elections and predict how much of the union vote Obama would need to carry in 2012 in order to win the election. This project has been of great interest to many potential employers, each one of them wanting an excerpt as my writing sample for my application.

As a Junior, I took Geography 128, a class dedicated to "political geography." The final project was to work with a group to write a policy paper and compose a presentation that we would present to the class, which would be acting as the United Nations General Assembly. Working on policy is one of my ultimate career goals. The previous summer, I had interned for the Feminist Majority Foundation in Washington, DC and I had completed some work on their "Afghan Women's Project." Therefore, I suggested that our group's project be dedicated to enhancing women's rights in Afghanistan. Our project earned us a final grade of 100%, and after working with me through the course of the semester my professor wrote me a letter of recommendation that helped get me an internship for Barbara Boxer's office in the U.S. Senate. In the links above, you will find both the paper and the Prezi that our group presented to the class. This constitutes the visual rhetoric portion of my portfolio.
